A note, written on a neatly torn slip of parchment and dropped into her mail cubby:
Adrasteia,
I've an errand to attend to in Ferelden. I expect it will take a few weeks, but I will be back once the matter's been settled. If you need anything, Richard Dickerson is a good person to ask.
[ Later that evening, whenever Ellis returns to his rooms for the night, he'll find a small package, somewhat flat, wedged between the bottom of the door and the floor.
Its contents are dried elfroot and one sprig of sea holly for luck. ]
Oh. Brilliant. Erm, I'm called Matthias. We don't know one another or anything, so I know this is strange. I'm Forces Assistant, and another mage-- I mean, I'm a mage as well, right, but this was a different mage than me. Or, rather, he's a mage and a friend of mine--sort of a friend--I dunno that you even know him.
Anyway, sorry, so my friend is Isaac and he went off on a mission thinger with Warden Ellis, and... so... [Where is he going with this even?] Anyway, I only wanted to introduce myself. 'Cause you're new, ish.
[ So now Adrasteia knows something more about Ellis' task: one, that it probably wasn't exactly a mission, given the way that Ellis framed it and 'mission thinger' doesn't inspire her to think 'official' and two, that Isaac went with him. Whomever Isaac is. A mage, apparently, and friend to this person, who sounds young! Well. Younger than her.
War ages people, so she won't comment on it. ]
Hello Matthias, and well met! Thank you, for introducing yourself. I've known Ellis for years but I'm afraid I don't know Isaac.
A person—well, persons I should say, within the company are to be married. And while the actual thing itself is to be quite small, I have read in certain accounts that throwing a party afterward can be an excellent source of levity in a time of war and thought I might extend the opportunity to boost Riftwatch's morale.
I couldn't possibly hope to do such a thing on my own stipend, but with some assistance from the Gallows' purse...
[ Slipped between some of her messages/books/notes/etcetera; a handkerchief, stitches with Adrasteia's name; a second one, decorated with (hah) mushrooms in different colours, all hand woven, wrapped around some fresh cut lavender. All that is left with it is a note with another drawing of a mushroom and an - S. ]
[ Adrasteia is immediately taken with the handkerchiefs, keeping them on her person at all times. The lavender, also, goes amongst her things to brighten the scent of them all.
The trouble, as she sees it, is getting a gift back to Sidony.
What she settles on, in the week it takes her to decide, is a set of hairpins done in the colors and style of seaglass, with a matching hand-embroidered handkerchief with a little waves patterns in the corners to match.
The flowers that accompany them are a mix of embrium and moss roses in pinks and yellows.
There is a note too: I cherish your gifts.Thank you does not suffice. - Adrasteia]
It's just-- I've received this note, and my-- well my letters aren't very strong, I wondered if you might look it over for me and make sure I've got the right of it.
[ Her voice is soft, a little tired, when she speaks. It's not too late into the night, really, but it's late enough that it might be a concern if it were not a healer working too long hours. ]
When Adrasteia arrives at the Grey Wardens' office, she will find it already occupied by a scrawny hawk of a woman seated in one of the chairs opposite a desk. Her head is angled to get a proper look at the new paint job on the walls, a little twist of amusement at the corner of her mouth, though it fades when she turns to meet eyes with Adrasteia and offer her a formal nod.
"Warden Adrasteia," she greets, unfolding herself to rise from the chair and roll her shoulders in a stretch.
"Warden von Skraedder." Adrasteia folds her hands in front of her and nods respectfully, mage's staff at her back. You never know when you might need the thing. She doesn't know the other Warden's history with Riftwatch well enough to gather whether or not the new paint job was a good idea to mention but she'd have seen it anyway.
"I went on the second expedition to the Temple of Dumat and I've been to the Crossroads in recent months, so I have some sense of what is going on."
If there's any issue with the paint job, Teren makes no indication of it-- instead, that little smirk returns when Adrasteia nods so primly, and there may be warmth in the way the older woman looks at her.
"Glad someone does." She sits back down, formalities out of the way, and bends forward to rest her elbows atop her thighs, thin hands clasped. "What'd you find in the Temple? Will it help us here?"
[ a formal start, and ever a little uncomfortable with this method of communication, but he presses on. ]
I intend to run a drill for the company on an evening in the next few weeks. I was wondering if I might use your resources as Morale Officer to offer a reward for those that participate. Some wine, perhaps, or food.
[ A beat, and then; ]
And if you had any further questions on the conclave in Cumberland, I could answer them.
